Tasha Stevens had climbed out of the lower levels of the compound and was starting up the steps to the walls when she heard the cries. They were sudden and sharp and signaled shock and excitement. She was still inside and could not tell what was happening, but she redoubled her efforts instantly, charging ahead, abandoning stealth, throwing caution to the winds.
If she was too late...
If they had already thrown Lyon and Ramalda from the walls...
If, if if...
THe words burned in her mind like live coals. She couldn't be too late. Not this time. Not after coming so far and getting so close. She should never have left her friends in the compound. She should have found a way to take then when she left. Relying on breaking them free now was a fool's game, and anyone with half a mind would have known it.
But she was reckless and perhaps the fool that attempted such acts. Maybe she should not have tried this without them, but now that she realized that they might pay the price for her rash behavior, she could not allow herself to fail.
With a quick tug of the cords holding her hood and cloak close to her neck, she slipped up the steps with speed, hoping she wasn't too late.
